Work to solve a real-life problem identified by clinical partners

MTF Innovation Programme

The MedTech Foundation is the student and trainee divisions of an NIHR research initiative known as MedTech and In-vitro Diagnostic Co-operatives (MICs). The MICs aim to incubate, integrate and accelerate the development of technologies which address the unmet needs of NHS patients.

The Innovation Programme is a four-month educational programme that introduces medical device development and provides experience of interdisciplinary teamwork. Small teams of students and early career researchers and clinicians work to solve a real-life problem identified by clinical partners.

Interactive workshops and small-group mentoring cover approaches to clinical problems, concept generation, effective teamwork, business model development, and pitching. Teams produce an Executive Summary and pitch their ideas to a panel of judges from academia, industry, and clinical practice.

The Innovation Programme is open to students at the University of Cambridge, Anglia Ruskin University and junior clinicians at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.
