ai@cam is the University of Cambridge’s strategic initiative for artificial intelligence, bringing together researchers, innovators, educators, businesses, policymakers, and communities to ensure AI research and innovation delivers meaningful public benefit.
The initiative supports interdisciplinary collaboration across the University, connecting expertise from fields including computer science, engineering, medicine, social sciences, humanities, and public policy. Its mission is to help ensure that advances in AI are developed and applied in ways that benefit science, citizens, and society.
Rather than focusing solely on AI research, ai@cam aims to build the infrastructure needed for responsible and impactful AI innovation. Through research programmes, education, skills development, partnerships, and innovation initiatives, it helps bridge the gap between academic research and real-world challenges. Key areas of focus include health and social care, environmental sustainability, economic growth, public services, and wellbeing.
A central goal of ai@cam is to connect AI development with public needs and societal priorities. By fostering collaboration between researchers, industry, government, and communities, it creates opportunities to translate AI research into practical applications while encouraging discussion around the opportunities, risks, and governance of emerging technologies.
