The Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology links industry with academia

The Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology – Enterprise

The Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology recognises the need for a greater level of commercialisation of public and charity funded research, as well as for educational programmes focused on instilling an enterprise mindset in future generations.

The department welcomes enquiries from industry, and others, about collaborations to tackle particular problems or research areas, whether these are suited to a short consultancy, a small experimental programme or to a longer-term study requiring a major research effort. They offer flexible funding, intellectual property ownership, timing, personnel, and management options to suit client companies.

The department is an active collaborative partner for joint research and strives to build:

  • Industrial links via consultancy, studentships, contracts, and longer-term research programmes
  • Entrepreneurship and support for the creation of spinouts with a particular focus on inclusive innovation and social and ethical entrepreneurship
  • Clinical relationships resulting from entrepreneurial and collaborative activities

The Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology is also home to the Master’s in Bioscience Enterprise (MBE) programme.
